Korean coach helps Odisha archers improve

Odisha Archery Association (OAA) has taken a new initiative to help young talents fom the state make their way to the Indian team. The state body in association with KISS and KIIT has roped in South Korean coach Chae Hong Gi to train two tribal archers for the national selection trial for the composition of Indian team for the Youth World Archery Championship, scheduled to be held at Wuxi, China, from October 13 to 20.

The Korean coach, who was also the coach of the Indian archery team for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games,  will work on rectifying the technical flaws of the young Odisha archers Ranjit Naik and Raj Kumar Naik in a five-day camp, which commenced here at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) campus today.

According to OAA secretary Sradhanda Das, Ranjit of KISS and Raj Kumar of SAI Centre, HAL (Sunabeda), have been picked to face the final selection trial for the Indian team to be held at Pune from September 1 to 3.

While inaugurating the camp, OAA president and Ajit Tripathy announced that eight nodal centres will be opened in different tribal high schools to develop archery in Odisha. KISS archery coach Rajesh Hasdak and HALL SAI Centre archery coach Tapan Murmu were present on the occasion.
